Prosecutors Raid Samsung Headquarters

(MENAFN) South Korean officials conducted a raid at Samsung Electronics’ main offices on Thursday amid suspicions of insider trading, according to a news agency.

Authorities from the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office executed a search-and-seizure operation at the company’s Suwon headquarters, located south of Seoul. The news agency reported the move, citing legal insiders.

The investigation is tied to claims that staff members of Rainbow Robotics, now a subsidiary of Samsung, secured unlawful profits by exploiting confidential information regarding Samsung’s acquisition of the firm.

Prosecutors have received referrals for 16 individuals, including Rainbow Robotics’ chief executive and chief financial officer, for alleged breaches of the Capital Markets Act.

These individuals are accused of generating illegal earnings estimated between 3 billion and 4 billion won ($1.96 million to $2.6 million) through insider trading during Samsung’s purchase of company shares between 2022 and 2024.

Rainbow Robotics’ offices had already been searched by investigators earlier in March, highlighting the ongoing scrutiny surrounding the case.
